"There was nobody on YouTube who looked like me...

"-so I decided to fill that void."

DID YOU GO TO COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY?

I knew I wanted to study performing arts so I went to the nearest college that offered that course. I also attended an actual performing arts school too, so they worked hand in hand with each other. In terms of university, I applied and was accepted into Roehampton and Kingston Universities. However, I decided not to go as I knew I wanted to dance, so performing arts school was the best fit for me at that time. I have no regrets, as the performing arts path is what helped my confidence to start my vlogging journey.

HOW DID YOU GET INTERESTED IN VLOGGING?

I was watching YouTube videos back in 2010 and I loved them. However, I soon realised that there was nobody on there who looked like me so I decided to just fill that void. In the beginning it was a way for me to feel included as well as my creative outlet.

IS IT A REAL JOB?

Of course! I’ve never worked so hard in my life! lol!  Some days are 15hours+!
I pretty much run a business by myself so I am always learning as I go.

WHAT SORT OF PERSON DO YOU NEED TO BE? DO YOU NEED ANY SPECIFIC SKILLS, EQUIPMENT?

Anyone can make YouTube videos or write a blog but if you want it to become a full-time career, then you need to be ambitious, self motivated and extremely organised.

WHAT ARE THE DOWNSIDES?

Losing inspiration for content can be tricky, and if you let your time management slide things can pile up easily. You also need to have a thick skin and be able to deal with trolls and criticism as you open yourself up to that being online.

WHAT ARE THE BEST BITS?

Definitely interacting with my followers and having a voice. I also love the opportunities I get working with brand campaigns close to my heart. I also love the creativity when shooting with my photographer and then putting together outfit posts.

BEST MOMENT EVER?

Definitely getting my book deal. It still hasn’t sunk in!

"Don't let failing at the first hurdle put you off."

"It's important that whatever you're talking about, you have a passion for."

WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS AND PARENTS THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE DOING?

I think they’re really proud of me.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE FOR THE FUTURE?

I have always been focused on my career so if I’m honest, I’d actually like to take more me-time and work on some personal goals as well as creating more content and presenting more documentaries about taboo subjects.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR 16 YEAR OLD SELF?

You’re good enough. You always were and you always will be. :)

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS HOPING TO DO SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU’RE DOING?

Don’t let falling at the first hurdle put you off. Building a following takes time and its important that whatever you’re talking about, you have a passion for.
